On July 18, 2025, Reliance Retail, a subsidiary of India’s Reliance Industries Group, announced the acquisition of home appliance manufacturer Kelvinator to enter the fast-growing durable consumer goods market.
Kelvinator is an American home appliance manufacturer, whose main products are household refrigerator series. It had strong influence in international markets including India in the 1970s and 1980s, but gradually lost market share after the 1990s. The acquisition was completed by Reliance Retail, and the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Isha Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Retail, emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition. She stated that acquiring Kelvinator can significantly expand the range of trusted global innovative products that Reliance Retail offers to Indian consumers. By combining Kelvinator’s innovative tradition with Reliance Retail’s strong retail infrastructure, the group aims to unlock meaningful consumer value and scale up more quickly in the high-end home appliance category.
